What to do with my car?? Help!!

Hi everyone I'm new so hope I'm doing this right!

I really really need some help deciding what to do with my car! Basically, to cut an extremely long story short (!) I have been told that all the injectors in my car have gone and will need replacing at a cost of around £1000!

I have an 04 plate Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi. I have had it for nearly 5 years and it has done 102K miles.

A few months back it conked out. When we got it to the garage, they said the injector seals had gone (for the 2nd time!) and had to be replaced. This was done and I collected the car. However, the guy at the garage (who is a friend) said that he wasn't sure the car was running right as it seemed sluggish and slow. I took it home and drove around for a bit and struggled to get it up to 50mph on the dual cariage way! I took it straight back to the garage and agreed it wasn't running right. I left it with him to have a look at. Anyway, the end result was that he took the all the injectors out and sent them away for testing and the result came back saying that they had all gone caput. Now he searched around and said the cheapest he could find were £250 each and I need 4! Thats just for the parts and would need to add labour to that too, which I cannot in a million years afford! OH also says not worth spending that kind of money on a car that is probably only worth about 2-3K in good condition (which mine is not!)

Anyhoo (sorry this is going on a bit!) he put the old injectors back in and I have just had to put up with driving around at stupidly slow miles an hour. The MOT runs out next month, and on top of this problem, I will need a new tyre, new headlight, and brake pads! I can't really sell it for any kind of money, because of the problems, and also because it has a heavily scratched front bumper, a dent in the rear and odd seats!! It really doesn't sound good does it!! I'm not that much of a bad driver honest:) But I can't afford to get it fixed either. It seems ashame to scrap it, and then I can't really afford to by a new car at the moment and I need one to get to work. Argh it's a nightmare!! Any advice would be so gratefully received as we are all going round in circles as to what to do! thanks in advance.

A good diesel specialist may be able to refurb the injectors you have?

    Some here.

  • I find it odd, (although not impossible) that all four injectors have similtaniously "gone."

It needs a full diagnosis, sounds more like wiring has been damanged during the refitting of the injectors. The injector seals is very common on these engines, most of them are on their second/third set. Very mucky job, not a favourite.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah it does seem odd that all 4 have gone at the same time, but this is usually the luck I have with motors!! The wiring had been burnt out due to the seals but this was all replaced when I had these done. Also replaced the fuel filter and air filter at the same time (and £450 later!) The next idea was to take the injectors out and see if they could be refurbed, but obviously I need to find out how much it will cost to get them out and have them put back in again, as well as the refurb, and whether this would be worth it. I don't like the idea of keep chucking money at this car. It has done quite a few miles and more stuff might keep going wrong after these problems are fixed! I know that may sound a bit glum but I really don't have much luck with cars! :)

  • Bah! Modern Fords are exceptionally reliable, just these engines are troublesome.... But they are a Peugeot-Citroen engine. Like the old statistic says, the most reliable car built in Germany is the Ford Focus.

These engines are deceidedly "average" in my opinion, lots of little issues with them, one of which being the injector seals. I'd get a diagnostic check done on the car, it could be due to the previously damaged wiring the car is misbehaving, and needs fault codes cleared.

Get some recon injectors from Diesel Bob. It will cost a lot less than £1000.

    http://www.dieselbob.co.uk/orderinjectors_ford.asp
Price £42.00 each excluding VAT, £20.00 deposit required until old injectors are returned.
    So £200 ish.

    Wiring faults,

    A pretty good engine (ermm!)
