Hi everyone I have been reading posts on people having problems paying for vets bills. We are beginning to have the same problem. 2 years ago we got a beautiful Belgian Shepherd dog from Hula. He is a lovely dog so gentle , a pleasure to own. We have another old dog and they have become inseperable. About a month after getting Koda he started having epileptic fits (probably the reason for the previous owners for getting rid of him?!) We got in touch with Hula, who said that they were'nt told and didn't know. We have now been buying medications from the vets Bromide and Epiphen which has had to be increrased now due to immunity to them. Blood tests at £130 a time and tablets costing £138 a month. The insurance won't cover his epilepsy either and the cost is creeping up and up. My partner works and we are not eligible for the PDSA help. But we struggle every month, and Koda still has to have his medication. What are these charities doing? What are vets doing? We have a kind, loving dog who not out of any fault of his own has this awful condition, we care about his health and wellbeing, but if you can't pay the vets you don't get the treatment. What do we do? Do we send him back to Hula after he has settled here as one of the family for the past 2 years??? Do we stand by and watch him have fits every day ??? Do we have him put to sleep when there is medication out there that can help him lead a relitavely normal life ? Every animal deserves love and care and to lead a full and happy life. We love him so much and we are trying, but we can't go on for much longer. Any advice would be so much appreciated.

Elaine, I'm sure you realise that animal charities would be unable to help. Koda's tablets cost almost £1,700 a year, even half of that is a considerable amount for a charity to fund every year for one animal not in its care. I think your argument is with tablet manufacturers, drugs companies are not known for underpricing their wares.
If the financial burden became too much I would see how Koda coped with the fits. If it's HULA at Aspley (or somewhere near there) I don't think they're that rich so trying to fund Koda's medication might be a strain for them.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
