Due to the drought this year, grain harvests are quite low. This will mean it will become more expensive for bread.

The cheap stuff is cheap because it's cheap (IYSWIM) :)

This goes on about it, but I'm not sure how much of it applies to bread sold in the UK.

Or go to your local supermarket at mark down time and get loaves of bread for 10p.

Yes and that is decent brands like allisons that costs over £1 a loaf.

On saturday I got two loaves of warburton thick wholemeal (in wax paper)with a use by date of today for 40p each. According to the receipt I saved 1.80ish.

The only thing that I buy in white is Pitta and baps as wholemeal are rarely marked down.

In the freezer I have a couple of packs of 12 ready cut baps warburtons white for 10p a packet. In sainsburys picked up packet of 5 finger rolls for 5p

As I will not even feed economy white to the ducks let alone myself.

Well that's cruel. They could be suffering from bird flu, and be looking for something to finish them off. :rotfl:

The large Co-op sells bread from a local bakery and at the moment wholemeal loaves are 79p instead of £1.39!!!! It is much nicer than the big brand wholemeal though so will carry on buying it all the time it's under £1. :)
