John lewis mattress

i want to buy a pocket spring mattress
went to john lewis and the one i liked was £900.
this is a lot over budget but if it lasts many years it might be worth it in the long run

has anyone bought a mattress from there and are they good quality
?good value for money ? or just overpriced?
any replies appreciated

They aren't poor quality as some big brands are, but many of their models are a poor design in the fact that they are non turn. This will shorten the life of the mattress, especially if it is pocket sprung.

As for pricing, they are very over priced.

    thanks very much for replying.
are marks and spencers any better as they are having a 20% sale next week so could get one form there at a discount so maybe making it the right price rather than overpriced.
i really don't know where to get one from other than the retail parks which everyone says dont go to
    any tips appreciated

Nooooo.......stay well away from big retailers, and big brands if you want good quality at a good price.

Shop on line from a seller who gives a proper satisfaction guarantee that allows you to unpack and sleep on the mattress. Discuss your requirements with the retailer, as it will be in their interest to make sure that you make the right choice the first tim, otherwise it will cost them money.

can i have a clue which online seller(s) will do this
as the ones i have looked at do not do this

its a minefield out there so any clues on sites, shops or brands will be very much appreciated
as a mattress should last 10 years + i don't mind paying a bit extra as in the long run it will be a good investment

I'm afraid I'm not allowed to tell you on MSE, as it could be viewed as advertising. It will just take some searching on google I'm afraid.
  • thanks will have a look but not that keen on spending all that money on a mattress off a random internet site just in case anything goes wrong
  • Just a thought, and no reflection on yourself, but, memory foam eliminates the risk of bed bugs. We ordered a bed online, packaging slightly ripped, cross contamination with old beds taken away. BE WARNED A VERY UPSETTING AND EXPENSIVE TIME

Thats why you need to do your research. If you buy from a high street shop you will pay twice the price, and still have the same problem if something goes wrong.

If a retailer is a limited company, then they have to display their company number on the web site. Then you can check them out at the companies house web site: http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk/7139091d9b575316422954df438b4b85/wcframe?name=accessCompanyInfo

That's why it is illegal to transport old soft furnishings in the same vehicle as new ones. If a bed retailer does this, then they are supposed to either use a separate vehicle, or a separate compartment in the same vehicle.
