Dual insurance refund

HI I cancelled my home insurance with halifax both contents and building and went with tesco for both however halifax did not cancel the building section and continued to charge me I did not notice as it was included in mortgage payments when i realised I got in touch with Halifax for a refund and after acting as a liason between tesco and halifax have just received a refund for 50% of the premiums. At one time halifax was asking tesco if they would refund 50% of their premiums! so far this has dragged on for about 6 months

This does not seem fair as it was Halifaxes fault that I was overcharged what recourse if any do i have please

Make an official complaint using the Halifax complaints procedure.

Alternatively write a letter before action, saying unless you receive the money they wrongly took from you within 14 days you will sue them for it. If they ignore that, then use MCOL to recover your money.

Do you have any paperwork from when the contents portion was cancelled? When did you set the policy up? Most newer policies are combined and can only be cancelled together.

Yes there is a fee, but you get it back off the defendant when you win.

As they already admitted liability, there is no doubt you would win!

I doubt they would let this get as far as a court case, but would pay up on receiving the summons.

Refunding 50% isnt an admission of liability; its fairly common where dual insurance has happened for it to be split. Unless you can prove any error on halifax's side then you wont get anymore from them; I'd question why Tesco havent refunded half as they would only be half liable for any claim.

If he followed your advice, the OP would be out of pocket.

But your advice is wrong, and the OP has all the proof he needs to get all the money back from Halifax, who admitted their error.
