Good advice on packing parcels (from previous posts on this board) is that when you have it packed you would be happy to drop it onto a concrete floor. I would second Speculator's suggestion of using one box within another. Personally I would not be happy using something like a shoe box that is not very strong.
I think a shoe box would be OK as the inner box, with the wrapped ornament inside it, then more packing around the box inside a bigger, stronger box (perhaps one from a small electrical appliance).
I don't think "fragile" labels make much difference to how the package is handled (some parts of the process are carried out by machine anyhow), but they should be used just so as not to give RM an excuse if your item is damaged. "Correct" packaging should include fragile stickers where applicable.
  • I sell china and breakables and find that the large bubbled bubblewrap is much easier to use than the smaller bubbled one, youll find some on ebay I expect.
I wrap 4, 5, or 6 layers of the wrap around the item, that's about 3" of padding, I don't use 2 boxes to pack I just make sure the box I use is so big that the bubbled up item has a gap of at least an inch around which is filled with polychips or crumpled paper.

As it is such an expensive piece you could use Special Delivery (I assume that they will cover for china breakages?) or what I do is use Standard Parcels and pay for the extra insurance and that will cover for loss and pack well!
