Hi happymonkey,
Please try not to panic on this. Firstly most of the time when they send these types of letter no one even shows up, or a very sneaky trick they have is that the letter will say they will CALL - so you assume they mean at the house when actually they just want you sitting in for them so they can ring you up! (I have had a good few of these)
Send them the letter above for peace of mind but please be aware that worse case scenario if they show up they have absolutely no rights whatsoever to enter your property or even to discuss the debt with you in public. If they don't leave when you ask them them to then they are trespassing and you can call the police to have them removed (make sure you state this to them as the threat is usually all that's needed).0 -
Many thanks for all your kind advice:)0

Or now would be a great time to organise sleepovers for the kids, whose kids have you had last? Perhaps they'd like to have yours tonight till... ohh I dunno... 8.30pm tomorrow? Might be easier to call in a favour than explain to the kids that there might be a debt collector on the doorstep?I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)
As of the last count I have cleared [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt.

As others have said Debt Collection agencies love to threaten home visits as they know it will scare people, but in reality they rarely visit and even when they do they don't have any more power than when they are on the phone or sending letters.
I have been threatened by home visits on a debt that is 4 times what you owe and noone has ever shown up. I doubt that they will be that interested in paying someone to visit over a small amount.
However if they do visit don't worry. As someoneelse said 'they have about as much power as an Avon Lady' they are not baliffs, they want to intimidate you. Just politely ask them to leave and tell them you will only communicate via letter. Treat them in the same manner as you would an unwantted door-to-door salesman.
Keep us posted, J0 -
Many thanks for your reply. I have sent a letter yesterday by recorded delivery as suggested earlier in this post, so fingers crossed no-one turns up. Many thanks for all your help and advice0
