I can remember when I got marrried many moons ago, my mother gave me a hoover washing machine. It was a front loader, but you pulled down this heavy weight door. To choose the programme, there was a kind of cassette type thing that you pressed in according to the wash you wanted. It was blue (the machine) and really heavy duty. I was really upset when it packed up.

PS. I love making the washing powder or gloop, feels very therapeutic, especially the gloop.

A friend of mine has an american top loader and tumble dryer - they are enormous - her utility room looks like a laundromat.
