Could you not transfer the account into another name?

if you still have access to the property, or can speak to the new occupier, see if they can dial 17070.
Forgot about that.
This is a very good suggestion - it is the number that can test continuity of your line back to the exchange. If it returns a number you have a line that only needs to be switched on.0 -
Hi,
You should not have to pay for reconnection for the new tenants, even if you had not had a business line and had residential stopped your line as you were moving out, and the incoming tenants left it a day to reconnect a connection charge could still be raised as open reach could cease the line the same day0 -
Its simply the incoming tenants cost. You did the same when you moved in and had your line set up and so does everyone else. When you leave you either take your account with you and transfer to new property or you pay the final bill and bt terminates contract and disconnects the line. Whether it is done physically or through the exchange is irrelevant to you as the leaving tenant.
If the landlord chooses he may provide or pay for a telephone line or even sky subscription and even a top of the range bicycle to get to work etc but unless specifically mentioned in the contract it will be the incoming tenants cost and neither LL or you are obliged to provide this.
You should ask the estate agents advising the LL if they are qualified and experienced enough to be called estate agents. They are meant to be professional Letting agents who deal with tenants and LL all day long. They know all this and what the requirements and industry norms are. Why do people try and use the deposit you paid as ransom amazes me. You should be covered by the deposit scheme if you went through the official channels in renting your home from the letting agents or landlord.
A lot of people are mentioning when they moved in they paid no charge.... BT will not charge if the line is still active and you are either switching supplier or moving homes. They currently charge £127.99 for a re-connection fee if line has been permanently terminated or you are a new user. They sometimes have special offers and offer free reconnection on certain plans0 -

I'm a bit confused as to why the line was disconnected if a new person was moving into the property.0 -
If I were the tenant I really wouldn't expect to find a working phoneline when i moved in, it would be nice but I wouldn't 'expect/demand' it. I have virgin media at the moment which means that there's no BT line in my place, if I moved out and somebody else moved in and demanded a BT line then I'd tell them where to go! Most people have mobile phones now so a landline has dropped of the list of 'must haves' in a property, it's not like water or electricity or something like that.0

Presumably OP's employer asked for the line to be disconnected, rather than saying that the OP was moving out at to render a final bill.I'm a bit confused as to why the line was disconnected if a new person was moving into the property.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. But what business was it of the employer to get the line disconnected? Didn't somebody else here say that the "business" part referred to the account and not the line? Why disconnect a line that would be used by somebody else? It wouldn't have cost the employer any money to leave it running.0
