I have been thinking of getting a new camera for a while, but still unsure about if i need one or not.
I dont use my camera too much at the moment, but when I do, always wish i had a better one - mainly the zoom on my normal camera isnt as good
Currenly have a Fuji F401fd (Or something like that)
What is the best first digital SLR to get? How much to spend?
I want it to last a long time, so maybe now one too basic that ill need to replace after 12 months.
Still undecided if ill get one, but it will give me things to look at
Thanks

If you don't use the camera much why spend the money on a DSLR?
Perhaps a travel zoom compact (e.g. Panasonic Lumix) would be the way to go. All the benefits (small, light weight, good quality pictures) plus longer zoom (up to 12x optical instead of the usual 3-4x, similar to a 300mm SLR zoom and up to 23x digital). There are lots of options available and all would be >£100 less than the cheaper DSLRs.
If you do decide to go DSLR then I found the Sony Alpha range to be great for a newbie. But remember they are quite bulky, especially compared with a compact, which can be a pain.
Best of luck with the search.:DKeep smiling,

If you only want an SLR for the zoom - you should be buying a bridge camera0

Ditto the Bridge; I had a fuji S5500 or something a while back, before I switched my SLR to digital; and absoblumminglutely loved it.0

If you only want a longer telephoto range then you'd be as well to go for a good quality compact. I hear good things about the Panasonic Lumix range. That's certsinly what I'd go for. SLR's have much better image quality but a long zoom would cost much more than a compact and be more cumbersome too.0
