Alternative to Feliway diffuser

It's now been 1.5 weeks since we introduced a new kitten to our 8 year old tom.
I THOUGHT it was going really well - a gradual introduction, sniffing of each other, the odd swipe and hiss but nothing major. My older cat seemed a bit put out, but would lie sprawled on the floor watching her, and just swiping if she got too close.
However, this morning I accidentally let Daisy out and she ran into the kitchen where Chester was eating, and started pestering him. (I tried to grab her but she's a speedy little b*gger!)
Chester was not happy - hissed and snarled, but then I managed to get hold of the kitten and put her away. Chester finished his breakfast....and then quietly went into the bathroom and peed in the laundry basket....!
He's never done anything like that before, so I can only assume it's either stress or attention-seeking. (Poor baby, I feel so guilty). I want to nip this behaviour in the bud asap!
I've done a bit of googlage, and it seems that Feliway is highly recommended. But it's quite expensive! I'm prepared to pay the £20-odd quid if necessary, but I was wondering if there's a cheaper alternative?
Another idea I had was to buy one of the refills, and put it into one of those air-freshener diffusers you can buy - would that work?
I'd rather get a diffuser than a spray, seeing as he doesn't (yet!) spray/urinate in particular areas of the house, so I wouldn't know where to spray it.
Hope someone can help!
Thanks,
BB

I dont think theres any alternative and i dont think it would fit in a normal diffuser thingy.
We had one and it was a godsend! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -

Yes they can fit in a basic airfreshner diffuser. You just may need to adapt the diffuser a bit. The one I used I just cut a bit off.
Also it's only been a week and half which isn't long you need to give them some time. Personally I would have kept them separated for at least 2 weeks for your Tom to get used to the smell. Then introduce them supervised for a while.
Also to say Feliway doesn't always work so it won't be a miracle cure. Personally if I was you I would give it a wee bit more time. Another trick worth trying is putting a drop of vanilla essence on the back of both cats neck. It means that they both smell similar. I have a friend wo runs a cat rescue who swears by that trick. Never tried it myself though.0 -
