TV/Monitor combined?

I need a new TV and due to shortage of space, was wondering whether to use it as a PC monitor as well. It would only be a small TV. Has anyone done this? I've heard it is OK so long as you get a high spec TV.

Your better off looking for a monitor that has inbuilt TV tuner. Its exactly what I did, it was cheaper than a TV and the warranty was longer.

  • As davester said, its better to get a monitor with bigger inch and add a TV tuner card in it.

    So
Sorry for being a complete techy numpty
If I got a new monitor and a tuner card, I don't need a separate TV right?
Where does the tuner card go?
Also I have Sky TV with a digibox (can't get an aerial signal where I live) - does this complicate things?
    Thanks!

Yep. My Sony Bravia KDL22E5300 is used as Freeview TV, with my BluRay player and hooked up as monitor to Acer PC with HDMI.

Almost all of the major monitor manufacturers - Samsung, Asus, LG, Acer etc - produce models which have TV tuners built in. There's no need to buy a seperate tuner card these days.
  • I have a lovely 22" high def Samsung monitor with inbuilt freeview. Works great as a monitor and a TV. I paid £199 for it in the January sales, it's this one. I'd recommend getting a monitor with TV function, rather than a TV with a monitor input, as most LCD monitors come with a 3 year manufacturer's warranty.
