Hi
Hope you can help before I go demented ! My boyfriend needs to get insurance for his old car , 1995 not worth a dime. However gets from a -b. Unfortunately he has had 2 driving penaltys in the past 3 year, uhm, AND wrote his last car off in June last year . Hence he has now been on my insurance - but that no longer an option. TRIED Martins tips but Tesco far too dear.Egg too. Insure supermarket only coughed up 2 quotes both far too dear.Confused.com only gave 1 good quote and that was with his last insurers who he hates ( Admiral) and I hate too as they have gave me nothing but grief for the past 2 years. So ANY company but admiral or their sis co. Elephant. Have tried changing his insurance with his clean living, driving retired dad on the policy but still getting quotes over 500.00 ! PLEASE help.
P.s I may add it is his responsibality to drive the big firengine around our hometime - needless to say I stay in when he is driving it......

Hi
The following direct companies should be able to help :-
Privilege (part of Direct Line)
First Alternative (part of E Sure)
As your boy friend is a firefighter Liverpool Victoria who offer discounts for local government employees and civil servants are somebody else to try but I suggest you ring them tomorrow on 0800 514 514 to check on the discounts.
There are several brokers with quotation websites who specialize in "bad drivers" such as :-
directchoice
quotelinedirect
motorquotedirect
The companies they will quote you with such as Highway Sabre Zenith and Fortis are not household names because they only deal through brokers but they have all been in business for 20 years or more.Corinthian is another broker only company but is an HSBC subsidiary and they specialize in accident/conviction records.
I can't guarantee this will bring it below £500.00 but I hope it will.
Best of luck0 -
Hi there,
Good advice Maclean.
Cat, can you tell me the type of car you want to insure and whether you live in a high or low risk area please i.e a town or a city.
Thanks!

Hi
Its a puegot diesel 3 door 106xnd 1995. Not worth a lot ! It is a low risk area we live in, especailly my boyfriend he lives in the Wimpey side! the nearest town is over 20 miles away. I tired Privillege and 1ST alternative and they were still over the 500 mark. Thanks for the suggestions any more advice would be lovely. I may add that he has actually had his licence 17 years - just ,uhm , bad luck recantly .0 -
Hi Cat,
The best companies I can find (I assume your b/f is under 45) are:
For internet quotes: Churchill, Direct Line, Egg and More Than
For phone quotes: Direct Line, Hastings Direct, Budget, and the Post Office.
Please let me know how you get on. I know that you've tried Egg but I didn't see that you had tried Churchill, Direct Line (Privilege is different) or More Than, on the internet side of things.
Good luck!

Hi - My daughter's risk profile was very similar ( 2 X SP30 + accident + Peugeot 106 ) and for her motorquotedirect were by a good way the cheapest. They were £120.00 cheaper than privilege. One tip to get the lowest price is to select TPFT cover and then opt for the highest excess you can.The excess is only for fire and theft so this makes the cover TP only. You won't have to pay anything towards a third party claim.also include a female driver with clean record (yourself ? his mother? )0

Hi thanks everyone for your advice. Tried all the companies you suggested but still no luck no one came under the £500 , some were well over ! Unfortunately no one could beat Admiral whos final quote was £ 210 3rd party fire + theft. Put his mum on his policy, since she has not stepped in a car for 20 years. Disgusted at having to use Admiral again as their whole customer service and efficantcy is TRASH. When I changed my original policy over the still took 2 dirct debits off me, took an extra month 2 cancel it + caused me months of grief. And thats just one example. The other thing is the insurance my boyfriend has taken out with all his Blips, uhm. on his driving record was Half the price Admiral have been charging me for the past year.Despite the fact I had 2 cars insured with them + 2 years no claims ! So if it had only been £50 differance between Admiral + someone else we would have taken someones elses policy. But hey ho not to get bitter - thanks anyway.0
