Insurance Claim

I'm insured with Halifax (as recommended at the time by MSE due to excellent deal)

I have biulings and contents insurance including accidental damage
Recently a ceiling fell in due to damaged plaster. It is lath and plaster. They say that it isn't covered as it is general wear and tear as the ceiling is probably many years old (certainly more than 7, when I moved in)

What they are telling me seems fair enough as there was no accident, so if that's the case, then so be it.

However, I'd really like it not to be the case so I can go back to them and say that they are trying to wriggle out of it. Would I be covered or not on a "standard policy"?

I can't find the T&Cs of the policy unfortunately

If no incident caused the collapse (like a burst pipe), then this wouldn't be covered.

And accidental damage cover, includes thing such as somebody in the loft putting their foot through the ceiling accidentally.

Insurance is not a maintenance contact designed to cover wear and tear, it is to cover unforeseen events and unfortunately although your ceiling falling down was an unforeseen event, the proximate cause was the age.
