Gateway laptop has no sound?

Hi everyone hoping some of you could help me please...

I'm using OH's laptop at work (right click and properties on my computer says it's a Gateway mx6211b) and it's running windows xp.

I can't get sound, no matter what I try. There's no icon for it in the system tray, and when I open 'sound and audio devices' in control panel, everything is greyed out and it says 'no audio device'. So I'm guessing the sound drivers are missing?

However I've googled everything I can think of and I just can't find the drivers. I think it's quite an old laptop. Can any of you help me please?

Have you tried putting your serial number into their support site driver finder HERE?

Thanks, just tried every number I could find underneath the laptop and none of them work

You could try installing and running everest. Click on motherboard/motherboard and it will give your motherboard manufacturer and model... you should be able to track down the drivers from there....
