To be honest...the only way I know how to get a replacement is to go to a Ford dealer, as they can order your key from the chassi number on the cars engine.
    Hope this helps

  • good luck. is it on with remote cental locking cause if it is you wil need to go to ford with it. If it is one of the ones with the imobiliser chip in it which looks like a blue square in the end you could go to an ironmongerers and hey might be able to cut you one.
But from the sound of it you only have one key left or even none so this will be a visit to the dealer. And a fair wedge of cash being handed over.
If you have no spare i am not entirly sure if you will be able to get a new key could be a new locks situation.

I remember when most garages sold Ford keys. When I was a kid my Dad had lost his so I had to bike down the road with 50p for a new FT171 :)
    Can I help?
  • Oh dear! thanks for replies. We currently have NO key so I guess this will be expensive.
  • ARGHHH! Local Ford dealer 2 miles away say it will be £520 + recovery!!They say they will need to break in, new locks, recode new key etc
Customer services in Coventry say they do not even need the car as we have details on the log book, but still need to go to a dealer to order the key.
    Who is telling me porkys??

i would go with the customer services as they will be run by ford where as the dealer will be out to make as much as possible. They will need to break in but you could do that with a brick or call the AA.
I would have thought if you can prove the care is yours, V5c etc. they should be able to cut the key without having hte car there, you should also of got a wee black tab with the car with a number on it which coresponds to you key to get it cut.
The reall problem is the immobiliser as yes this will need coded and am afraid you will probably need to go to the dealer as you have no keys at the current time.
  • these keys are a real rip off.you will as has been said only get one from your dealer.
i know it sounds obvious but try your best to find it your self,my mum paid £110 for a spare rover key to replace her lost one-missing for weeks, she found the original the day after she got the new one!!
it shouldnt be as expensive as you think if you have the key number quoted in your service book.

  • Well, I found a brilliant web site where they can do you a new key if you have the four digit number (which of course we didn't ) I phoned and got great advice about finding a local car security guy to come to the house( what to avoid etc) so someone is coming to the house on Thursday to break into car, dismantle door, get number and get new key coded all for £225! That seems amazingly cheap after other estimate, and less hassle. We will see. Thanks to all for your ideas.

We live in Birmingham and had only one key the one with the red chip in. We got a clone made for £46. We were told that if we had no key at all they would come out to the car and it would have to be reprogrammed the cost was something like £140. This was in June 2006 so it would be about the same cost now. It was a locksmith shop in Flaxley Road, Stechford, Birmingham not sure of the shop name but I could find it if required

I took it upon myself to contact sons friend in whose car/house he had been yesterday and who he assured me had looked for key. Anyway I sent a text and asked him to humour old lady and look again; the lovely boy rang me and said he was playing football but would look on return and he found the key.
Best money saving of the day! Not sure it is the red chip key?? but will def ring the man who was due to come on Thurs, cancel him but ask if we can get a spare key 'Just in case'
Thanks again guys for your support.
