local authority redundancy - no money!

Hi I wonder whether anyone could advise me
I have worked for a council for 8 years (in an offshoot organisation, set up by the labour government) we are now being closed down
when we were told of this i applied for a job at another council and was successful. however, my current employer is trying to class this as a redeployment and refusing to give me redundancy money
i am moving to a job with less pay and more hours with no salary protection etc and think i should receive the redundancy to offset this, but i am told by HR that its 'unlawful' to be made redundant (paid off) by one council and start straight away at another
seems like a rip off to me..has anyone had similar experience, or can anyone please advise me on the rights and wrongs here??
thanks in advance
Hardly a rip off, are you expecting to get redundancy, on the same day that you move into another job as a civil servant, with the possible expectation of claiming redundancy again in a years time from a different branch of the same organisation?
Personally I would be grateful that I had managed to obtain alternative employment in the same organisation0 -
If you play it right, you can retire one week (get £500k) then take up a new £140k job two weeks later. Of course, you do get to go in the papers too: http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&tbs=nws%3A1&q=northumberland+cornwall+doughty&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=c8eba923252882a50

Hi all, thank you forall your advice and Imsorry it took so long to return. Jellylegs i am sorry you are so ill and hope things work out for you. your advice is particularly helpful, its the first i have seen of that policy. i still havent had my offer yet and have been told that i will get my notice letter by end August, but even if there's a break in service, i will still get no redund money.
I am grateful for having a job to go to but cannot afford to have a break in pay. in the meantime, i spend £40 a week on petrol to come into an office thats a ghost town, with no work to do...and i have to pay £45 a week to put my child in school holiday club!!
c'est la vie....0 -
