setting up email account on android

I'm struggling to set up my outlook express email account on my new wildfire phone.

On the set up screen I've entered my email address, and the 'server address' is then automatically filled in with 'talktalk.net', my user name is the 1st part of my email, I know my password, but what is the 'exchange domain name?'
I've searched the net for how to find it in outlook express, but I'm stumped.
The only info I can find in the account settings are

*my incoming mail server is a POP3 server
*incoming mail pop3@talktalk.net
*outgoing mail smtp@talktalk.net

What am I missing?

Those settings are not for a mobile. The outgoing SMTP would be dependant on the mobile operator e.g. smtp.orange.co.uk or smtp.o2.co.uk etc.

If you have mobile or wifi internet on the phone mine works fine using direct links doesn't go anywhere near to o2.co.uk

That's only because Talk Talk doesn't allow connections from outside their network to their SMTP server. Any right configured SMTP server would allow SMTP AUTH.
