As a LL, i might well be tempted to charge you until 12th 'October, which i would be PERFECTLY legally entitled to so do....

notice must end at the end of your rent period...... being allowed to leave (with no penalty) on the 17th is more than generous

you are being treated MORE than fairly... so i have no idea how you can possibly see this as a Scam.....

It's a standard forum rule; whenever you see the words scam or rip-off in the title, you can be absolutely sure it's no such thing.

    Totally agree.

Consider yourself lucky OP. When I was given notice to leave last house and I found another one I was forced to pay rent on two properties for the same month as my landlord refused to accept my 1 month notice 3 days late. (I could have been difficult and stayed in the property until court order but my approach to being served notice is to knuckle down and get on with it and out with minimum of stress).

but I can usually shut her up with chocolate!

When I thank a post in a thread I've not posted in,
it means that I agree with that post and have nothing further to add.

I think both sides are right. Their calculation makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and it is probably a scam to get more money out of you. But equally they don't have to let you off early so they could just as easily have said "we'll agree to that but only if you pay £15 for the privilege".

    Not worth arguing about IMO

You're lucky they let you stay until the date you want, and allow you to only pay for some extra days. They could have said it's 2 whole months or nothing.

There are many ways to calculate figures - and many idiots who can't do maths... it's hardly a scam that their figure's £15 different to yours. Just either a different way of calculating, or an idiot.

neither my accountant nor i are ever able to calculate how the local authority come to the figures they do when paying LHA based on a monthly rent... it never correlates with our figures....
