How do the DPS return deposits? (Cheque, BACS)

As the title says - I'm just about to move out of our rental house and hand the keys back to the estate agent. I'll be moving abroad so will be a pain to pay in a cheque. What are the options to receive the money back (assuming the estate agent decides to give it to us, of course
). Can they pay it into a nominated account via BACS?

As far as I know... It will always be by cheque, unless there are extremely extenuating circumstances, or massive delays in getting your money back to you.
I work for a student lettings service and all deposit refunds are chequeMFW 2010- £112,500 + 20% Equity Loan = £150,000 35 years
2013- £108,877.28 + 20% / current OP = 19 years :T

Why not contact the DPS by telephone to inquire? Their telephone number is listed on their website and you would get an immediate answer before returning your keys. You will need to have your deposit number information, which your landlord has to have given you as part of the prescribed information.
You can't be the first person to ask for help if you'll be living overseas. Be sure to make a note of who you speak to and the date/time. I'd confirm whatever you discuss with them afterwards by email as well (they are quite good at replying by email if you need anything over a longer period of time).
Good luck!:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A0 -

Oh, one more thing. Your agent can't decide whether or not to give it back. You have to both agree to any charges that are to be taken from your deposit and reasonable wear and tear can't be included. If you disagree, you can ask the DPS to initiate free adjudication proceedings by the ADR (alternative dispute resolution service) that they provide for free and its decisions are final and legally binding.:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A0 -
as a LL i have got several deposits back from DPS (some part deposits) and as long as you have logged onto their site and given them bank account details they will pay directly into a bank account....
i doubt very much tht they will pay by cheque.. too expensive these days...0 -
Thanks everyone! I am sure the agent will be fair, they always have been in the past. It's more the logistics of getting the money back that I am worried about, I will make sure we specify bank details on the DPS website (have lost the deposit reference... one more thing on my list of things to find over the weekend!)0

Just to confirm we can make payment by cheque or BACS and we will also make wire payments to overseas bank accounts.“Official Company Representative
