Getting deposit back (or not) via bank payment

Hi
I am about to move out of my student house and the landlord has said to leave my bank details with him so they can transfer the deposit payment.
When I paid the deposit, it was in cash. Is he allowed to do this? Becasue I am moving out of town and wouldn't be surprised if the money never arrives. Surely he has to pay cash like I did?

Unless your contract stated that the deposit must be returned in cash, then landlord can return it via a valid payment method.
Bank transfer is better than a cheque, as a cheque could appear to clear and subsquently bounce. I think if it is transferred bank to bank then it appears as cleared funds as soon as the transfer completes, if the payer has made an error then they have to ask for their money back.0 -
I often pay deposits back via bank transfer, I find it easier as writing umpteen cheques and addresses it quite time consuming when you have many to do. Not to mention whether or not royal fail will deliver.
3 occasions this year they failed with my deposits in the post (tenants specifically requested posting) and one occasion took approx 18 days to arrive. This only leaves the tenant thinking that i have not sent it.
Also check if it states how long he has to pay it, generally 30 days is seen as acceptable for him to have had a full inspection etcMy Shop Is Your Shop0
