Can this shyster company do this?

The shyster company in question is Nikon, 18 months ago my mother in law bought a Nikon camera for my wifes birthday, my wife took out a two year warranty and Nikon sent her confirmation of the two year warranty in writing.

It has gone on the blink and Nikon now say they want £90 to repair it because the written warranty isn't enough we also have to produce a receipt of purchase which of course we don't have because it was a gift and the purchaser is now deceased.

  • Depends. What camera is it and what is worng with it?

If it is an SLR and needs a Sensor Clean, then that I am afraid is the going rate

Depends on the fault. If it's user caused or a service thing that I'm not surprised they wish to charge.

Perhaps if you're more polite when you approach them (judging purely on the language used in your post here) then they may be more willing to help?

Explain that you have proof of purchasing the extended warranty; I assume it's a Nixon policy and not a third party?

And do the warranty details say you need to keep proof of purchase? If so, then be extremely polite since you're reliant on their goodwill to honour the warranty without the POP it requires.
