Thank you to everyone for their replies. My son only wants to use this very rarely, for example when we go away next week (within UK)

See what options his phone provider offer. For example, Vodafone offer internet access for 30p per day, Orange for 50p per day. He would then only need to hook up his phone to his laptop (cable or bluetooth) and install the phones software so it can be used as a modem.

See. I am not the only one to think that!

Riiiiiiiight. The Nokia 6730 might work. You should try it before you go.
    • Download Nokia Ovi Suite (do not use your enclosed CD as Nokia PC Suite has basically stopped being developed and is replaced by Ovi Suite.
    • Connect your Nokia using the USB cable and run through the "new connection" screens on Ovi Suite [Tools > New Device]
    • Disconnect your Nokia and reconnect it (selecting "PC Suite" if it prompts)
    • Connect to the Internet [Tools > Connect to Internet]
If that is sucessful you should just be able to open IE as normal and its connected. Subsequent connections you can just load Ovi Suite, connect your Nokia and "Connect to Internet".

    Any problems, come back.

Yippee, it worked. So easy really when it comes down to it. Thank you so much for your help. Did send an email to tmobile on Friday as it happens asking what they could offer me, but they haven't replied yet. In the meantime though, think will just take a chance as it is.:j

I'm not sure how much T-Mobile charge for Data usage using your mormal SIM card. You should check that to prevent any nasty bills coming your way.
