Hope someone can help me here, i would be very gratelful!. I wrote to littlewoods on behalf of my mum complaining about charges and insurance which was being applied to her catalogue account, she never really knew what the insurance was for and never queried it. My mum never asked for this insurance and was unemployed at the time therefore we complained that it was misold to her.

They were quick to respond and sent us a questionare to fill out but only gave us 14 days to send it back. We did not have all of the information needed to fill out the form so requested they give us the date that the insurance was first applied to the account. They wrote a letter after the 14 days had elapsed, and said this is their final response. in their letter dated 10th August 2010 they state that:

  • The insurance, known as extra care 500 was first applied to the account on the 2nd july 2003.

  • An enhancment was made to the policy and it became known as extra care advantage (ECA) on 28th April 2005 and then a further enhancement was made on the 29th September 2008 and became known as shopping insurance.

They have said the FOS won't help as it was sold before 22/12/2003. Are these so called enhancements different financial products by different insurers and can we complain about all 3? Also do we still send them the questionare or just go to the FOS? Not sure what to do next, will be grateful for any help.

    Hi there

So sorry to hear this, they never seem to want to help if the business were not regulated, but I would contact the FOS anyway, they may not be able to deal with the catalogue company - but maybe through the actual insurer of the catalogue instead, many have been recommended to take this avenue by the FOS, as the insurers were possibly regulated, and do have involvement in the insurance policy.

So yes, give them a call at your earliest convenience in office hours, and see what they suggest, good luck and please let us know how you get on, thanks.:)

I didn't continue the complaint over the ppi due to cases being on hold, I've been trying to get around to claiming this back since the new court ruling in May.

Today Littlewoods have sent us a review questionnaire, has anyone else received this? Does this mean when we send it off we should receive a refund or is it just for their records? I'd really like to claim this money back for my mum asap. I'm sure there was a fso complaint form template of some kind to amend with your own details on here, does anyone have a link to this? I intend to write to the fso if I am not satisfied with Littlewood's response.

    thanks :)
