When I'm playing music on media player I put the pictures up with the music (visualisations)
I would like to play music with these pictures and copy to dvd through the dvd writer. Is there a way of doing it through the comp?
I know I could connect to tv and record through that but the comp is upstairs and tv/dvd recorder downstairs

your actually looking for a dvd slide show creator, there are many about but one of the best is memories on tv try downloading a shareware version that will play your disks and put music on the disk and also provide you with a proper start menu too, so you can have several folders on your dvd to play on your television set

Actually they aren't, they're looking for a Music Visualisation to DVD. Memories on TV and Photodex Proshow only put your photos/music on a DVD. To get the visualisations you need to use a overlay capture program like Techsmith Camtasia. I also remember hearing about a plugin for Winamp that will do a similar thing.
You play the music/visualisation whilst using the overlay capture tool of choice and output to MPG, use TMPGENC to convert the resulting MPG to VOB format and then burn to disk
