Returning Iphone 3GS under warranty

Looking for a little advice. I got an iPhone 3GS in January 2010 on a 24 month contract. I was told that the iPhone came with 12 months warranty as standard.
The problem is that the phone keeps freezing when trying to make calls (three times a week) and I have to do a reboot of the phone to get it to start again. When I say freezing I mean that the phone says that is calling the number dialled but just doesn’t do nothing, no dialling, no noise. You can then move around the phone’s interface without a problem – so its not crashing as such.
My questions are:
Also, I know that battery life is notoriously poor on most smartphones but it is particularly poor on my iPhone. I’m lucky to get a day’s use without charging. I do have 3G turned on but don’t use any other services. Does this seem about right?

My questions are:
- Has anybody heard of this fault before?
- Would I have grounds for a replacement under warranty?
- Would a replacement merely be a refurbished iPhone?

Try plugging your phone into itunes and see if it needs upgrading, there will be an option to download if there is. Also re the battery, i day is about the norm so remember to charge every night.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Hi,
I have had my iPhone 3GS since December 2009. About 2 months ago started doing the same thing. Updated software / plugged into iTunes etc etc but still "faulty". Contacted my telephone provider. Simple answer from them was "bad luck what to do is buy another on payg and swap the sim. That will be £550 sir":rotfl:
Made an appointment at the apple store to see a genius at the genius bar (hmmm) but in all fairness they took one look at it and gave me a replacement there and then for free. absolutely fantastic customer service. The replacement "may" contain factory refurbished components but the hard drive and case and screen are all brand new so it really makes no difference at all.
So get yourself along to your nearest apple store and take it from there.
Hope this helps.Debts paid off now :j after a life changing journey :money:0 -
Padded John I have the most uptown date software for both my pc and the phone.
Will certainly look at taking it in store.0 -
apple replaced my 3G in store with no problems so iwould book an appointment with them rather then the network0

Having worked for an Apple Service Centre I can tell you that any replacement will likely be a refurbished model, however it will look like new (new case and screen) so it doesn't make too much of a difference. This is actually fairly common for CE manufacturers. If you wish to insist on a genuinely brand new phone then you'd need to pursue it with the retailer you originally purchased from.0

Has it done this from the start or is it a recent problem? I recall reading something about the 4.0.1 update having similar effects on 3GS phones.0 -
It has become particularly bad after installing os4 generally. It just seems quite buggy and Internet freezes regularly too. Would the replacement carry any warranty?0

You could go back to OS3

Would the replacement carry any warranty?
Typically for Apple replacements it's 30 days or the remainder of your original warranty, whichever is longer.
I'd suggest restoring back to iOS 3, as it now does sound like a software problem. Also if you returned it, they'd give you a replacement running iOS 3 so the very same issue could happen it you upgraded to 4.
Restore your iPhone to 3, see if that fixes it; if it doesn't then return it, if it does then stay with 3 (at least until Apple have made more bug fixes to 4).0 -
I tried to load the os4 upgrade onto my iphone without success and was going to try again over the weekend, are you guys saying its a bad idea at the present time?:beer:Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
