Just moved house and trying to be super thrifty,as I wasn't beforew.Asked for info on saving gas and leccy, and they sent a list of 10 things-one of them was cooking with lids on.I also read somewhere that a lot of veg can be cooked by bringing to the boild with lid on and switching off and leaving-sounds feasible, have yet to try it- Probably not potatoes though.
does anyonew use a pressure cooker? Can you get more modern ones?

lid on for everything other than pasta & reducing liquids (& sometimes rice depending on how I'm cooking it)

like fiscalfreckles, I always put a lid on until the water boils & if I need a lot of water, I boil it in the kettle first

for veg, other than tough roots, they go into a tiny bit of boiling water & get cooked with the lid on so they steam rather than boil, which preserves the colours & nutrients :)
