Why can't I find a job?

Okay, Just having a bad day today......I'm extremely bored i'm just thinking about why I can't bl00dy find a permenant job!

I lost my job back in March. I thought it would be the end of my worries but what a fantasy that was.

I've been trying now for 7 months applied for god knows how many jobs, i'm with every agency in town, yet i've only had one interview......

My debt is getting slowly bigger and i'm not sure if i will have a job next month, oh god its all such a mess!

I'm sick of being a temp (not slagging it off as i know it suits some people, but not me anymore, i want to know i'll get paid if i'm sick and so on).

**Huff, sigh, huff again**!!

Anyone else want to moan with me your more than welcome.....

Have a look round the Benefits, Tax Credits & Jobseeking Board, there are job websites and other info on there. If you can't find anything interesting, perhaps post again on there?

  • Sorry to hear your struggling Loubie :( I'm sure something will come up eventually but it must be worrying for you.

Sounds like your trying really hard so keep on doing what your doing and hopefully it'll all turn out right.

What area do you live btw ?

    Ok, listen to this

I've never had an office job - no proper 9 to 5 experience at age 27 having done just market research/mystery shopping work since I left my uni course halfway through.

Past 2 years, but especially this year I have been looking for a job. The ex was a recruitment consultant and couldnt get me anything (or rather wouldnt.....cow). I had so many interviews and always failed. I was starting to lose hope big time. I broke up with the ex in July, one of the main reasons being my work situation and her being resentful that she was up at 7am each day while I could sleep in and was home when she got back. I had to move out of the flat we bought together and back to my parents. Everything going badly. Then suddenly the tide turned and I start a new job on october 3rd, not amazing money but the sort of position I wanted as opposed to any old thing I was applying to before.

Stick to stuff you want to do, keep going and keep bugging those recruitment people day in day out and sound enthusiastic. The company that I got my job through had only previously offered me stupidly junior positions and it wasnt till I bugged them for 5 days in a row that on the fifth day they put me forward for the job I wanted - otherwise it would not have happened! My debt stands at about 9k, not including the fact I will have taken a loss of at least 3.5k to get the ex out of my life for good means I was also depressed about earning about £700 a month with an escalating debt. Keep going and keep the faith!

Sorry to hear you're feeling a bit down loubie... I'm job hunting at the mo and I know it can be very hard. Its demoralising if you feel you're getting nowhere and it can be easy to take rejections very personally.

I don't know what kind of work you are looking for but perhaps widen your search a bit? There may be a position that you wouldn't think of but if you look through all sorts of job listings something might jump out at you. Sometimes looking for a job can be a great new start, perhaps something slightly different, perhaps a radical career change!!!

Have you got anyone who can look over your CV, or the covering letters/personal statements you write when applying? Perhaps a makeover of these, even if they're great already, will help you feel new enthusiasm.

Perhaps have a few days off, don't think about the job search and occupy yourself with other things. Perhaps moneysaving/moneymaking such as checking you're on the best gas/electric prices or speculate to accumulate a little through quidco :) Or maybe something completely unconnected to money - treat yourself to a nice bath, a meal you love or something similar.

Hopefully when you've had a little break you'll feel a bit better about the search and more enthusiastic too!

Thats a great suggestion about the CV

loubie_lou - if you want, PM me for my email address and I'll take a look at your CV (take off your personal details before) - as said before, the ex mrs was a recruitment consultant so I had loads of advice on how to best present things (though ironically I only got accepted after I decided to play on my strengths).

I'm sure we'd all be happy to put in our two-penneth worth about your CV - in a constructive way of course :)

I've been thinking we should have a dfw jobhunters club as there do seem to be quite a few people looking. Might really belong on the jobseekers board though... what do people think?

Hi Loubie, best of luck with your hunt. HR is a highly competitive field sadly and if you don't have a lot of experience, you may need to put a plan into action to get some, or some relevant qualifications. Normally you'd qualify while being in a job.

If you need to get a job soon, which it seems to me you probably do, I think you might have to consider casting the net wider than simply HR.

A lot of smallish companies like people in HR to also know something about recruitment, if you could deal with that field it would be a useful skill to work on for a bit. There always appear to be plenty of openings in the recruitment field, at least there are in the SW.

I was in the same position and someone in my family suggested ringing up the local councils and asking what Temp Agencies they used. I signed up with my local one and got a job quite quickly. Stayed in the same position and gained lots of experience and finally after 18 months as a temp in the same position went for a permanent place and got it. The temp hourly rate was excellent as it seems that the council pay more per hour. I also heard that if you are a temp for 2 years in my local council they have to offer you a perm contract. (not sure if this is true). Good luck with your job hunting, and hope you feel better soon!! Maybe you should look at the 'money comes esaily to me' thread and try 'jobs come easily to me' chant!!
