Cat flap to keep out unwanted cats?

Options
Hi, we have 2 cats and a catflap. Our problem is that we have an unwanted cat that keeps coming in and eating all our cats food.

Also one of our cats is only a juvenille and this other cat scares the hell out of her!

Was wondering if anyone knew of any solution? Have seen the magnetic catflaps - do they work and does anyone know best price for one?

Our cats have a habit of losing their collars.

I did suggest to my OH catching the cat if it came in again and driving it far away and leaving it there. It has no collar. They said that we couldn't catnap it. We aren't going to do that. Was wondering what the law would say about that as it is actually tresspassing and stealing!!

Any advice or suggestions received with thanks

Cheers

Who are "they"? Why did you suggest it if you aren't going to do it? The law will say you are stealing, as you seem to already acknowledge.

I bought the magnetic cat flap pet porte smart flap when we had the same problem, the first one broke when our cat didn't stop for the door to unlock and just ran straight through.... they replaced it for us which was good as it cost over £100... well worth it though, we have had no unwanted vistors since..

Hi, so it is called the Pet porte smart flap?

£100 is a bit too steep for us really but thanks for the advice.

I missed the smiley that would have told me you were joking when you said this, so I hope you were. How would you feel if someone did this to one of your cats who had lost a collar?

If you don't want to go magnetic, then the next time the visitor comes in uninvited, be ready (if you can) with a water pistol and spray him with a quick spray of water. Do this a couple of times and he'll soon get the message. No driving required.

  • Hi,

have a look here, they have magnetic for £25, if you do a search you may find them cheaper.

I should have made it more clear. We have tried that suggestion, numerous times - he still doesn't get the message!!

This cat is really bold. Goes into a place with 2 other cats and merrily eats their food whilst they are in there!

It is just that we are having the kitchen done and don't want it coming in and scenting the place.
  • Hi,

just found this in their clearance, £19 from £31.

Thanks for the post - the spare key prices are a joke but I guess they have you over a barrel!

I could have written this! We have another cat which comes in as bold as brass. The last time was Tuesday night and scared the living daylights out of our cat. The magnetic cat flaps do seem a good idea, but I'm wondering how effective it would be. Do they always let the cat with the collar in? What if it doesn't work all the time?!

My husband also suggested driving the mystery cat somewhere and leaving it!

That must of been a funny site poor cat. Yeah they work well, eventually they break like all things and you have to replace, We do have one local cat that figured out how to defeat the lock we don't know how.

He's semi moved in with us and if we didn't know who is actually owners were we would have adopted him anyway as he a nice cat and just wants somewhere warm to sleep. They don't care for him very well. He clearly know were family of mugs.

You can get flaps that work off chips but there a bit expensive. Either that or ebay is the best source for new magnetic buy what ever cheapest no point in buying branded magnetics.
