Forgot about possible scammers

ok so i was selling 3 Cisco IP phones all listed separately, didnt think they would attract much interest all 3 sold at the £65 mark and all to people overseas who are now paying me via paypal with unconfirmed addresses....help

i didnt think these phones would attract much attention so i made them available to overseas and stuck £20 postage on each and i forgot to say i dont ship to unconfirmed addresses....im not sure what to do now as im getting emails from the buyers asking me to post to addresses that are unconfirmed by paypal

do u think they are legit ??

the locations they have sold to are France, Spain and Greece

Can you withdraw the fees from Paypal into your bank account? Email the buyers, explaining that you won't ship until the funds have hit your account as they have unconfirmed addressess...

i think they can still do chargebacks though and i dont think im protected as a seller if i ship to an unconfirmed address

  • Yep, withdrawing the cash won't prevent a chargeback. And RM won't insure you to post a phone overseas.

Eek - what is the process for them to get their addressess confirmed by PayPal? Can you ask them to do this?

Is there any other method of payment that would be 'safe'?

i have emailed one of the buyers asking them to confirm delivery address and they replied instantly saying they had forgotten to update paypal with their new address....only prob is the "new" address they provided me with was the address that was already on paypal........i have got such a bad feeling about this

Can i just refund the payments ... say i dont ship to unconfirmed addresses and take the neg?

I would highlight what frivolous_fay said, it really is best not to list phones to be available for overseas buyers as you cannot send them with any insurance at all as Royal mail no longer cover phones over £32 when shipped overseas.

Yup, thats the best thing to do. Keep an eye on all the buyers since if they are scammers they will possibly be kicked off eBay pretty soon then you can get your fees back.

You could also issue Mutual Agreement Messages to them once you have refunded them in the hope they will agree so you get your fees back straight away. Dont normally recommend this but you have nothing to lose in this case.
