A second Santander current account?

Hi,
Background - I have had my Santander current account since January 2010. (when the 6% deal was on)
Was recently in branch talking to an advisor who said that I could open a second account with the 5% interest deal if I transferred my account with HSBC to them (this is my main account that has direct debits etc). She said that I could take advantage of the 5% but they would not be able to offer the £100 (presumably because I already have a current account with them).
I had a look at opening a second account online to see if it would stop me and it did not seem to, so has anyone else opened a 2nd current account with them WITHOUT transferring DD and SOs from another bank? Would rather keep my HSBC stuff in place at the moment but would like another 5% account!
Thanks
Mike

I have 3 5% accounts full getting the right interest. The faster payments limit is a pain to fund them
All I can say is I may have been lucky. No harm in trying besides a credit search.0 -
Interesting to know that you have 3 accounts!
I still can't find any mention on the site of restrictions to just one account so I guess it can't hurt to try another online application.
* JUJ - I will check the posters when I am in there today :-)
I have had some weird things happen with Santander but am sticking with it for now because quite frankly the interest rates are so competitive. The key to good service from them seems to be speaking to someone in branch - I recently set up a First Home Saver and the whole process was quite painless as far as these things go.

Last year I opened up a second account with them just to get the Visa Electron card. That account got 5% interest and I switched nothing into that account.
Although the deal at that time (Mar '09) was that if you didn't switch, only the first £1,000 of your balance got the high interest rate, and £2,500 of your balance got it if you did switch. You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0 -
Well I have applied for another account online... will let you know the outcome!
The leaflet/flyer I picked up in branch says "You can only open one £100 switcher account per person" but I still can't find any mention of not being able to open another 5% account.0 -
You can have as many PICR as you want but only 1 switcher £1000

What is a PICR? (i hate it when people use acronyms )0

I have googled it, and I can assure you the answer is Protein Identifier Cross-Reference.
EDIT: I have looked again, and can now assure you the answer is Preferred In-Credit Rate - i.e. the account where you gain the higher rate of interestYou're spelling is effecting me so much. Hi there,
Do Santander support outgoing Faster Payments?
ThanksIf I've help in anyway, please remember to thank me :-)0 -
.....so has anyone else opened a 2nd current account with them WITHOUT transferring DD and SOs from another bank?
I have 3 (A&L) and a Abbey joint acc. Now all labelled up Santander.
I have been looking to open another and the A&L site appears to give a clearer answer. see
http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/current-accounts/premier-direct-current-account.aspx
which says....
...paid in at least £1,000 each month. If you do not have any direct debits to switch you will not receive £100.
So, if like me, you are just after the 5% with instant access, a few of these accounts fit the bill.
However, the downside is the customer service is rubbish. And Faster Payments a joke... that's the price for the 5%!
But I'd not want to use them for anything else...0
