Hope this is in the right place. I really need some advice as to what to do next. My OH received a letter from MH stating they are attempting to contact him and to ring their office. It doesn't state what about or mention who they bought the debt off. I was just wondering should he ring? Or send some sort of letter?
I've asked him if he knows what its about but he isn't too sure. He has moved about alot so could be anything from 6+years ago or more recent. We got his credit report from equifax. After a quick look it shows 1 debt of £700ish from 2008. It could be this but maybe something older which isn't shown on there.
Sorry for the waffling i hope i've mentioned everything, any help would be great.

I can't advise you whether to get in touch but if you do then write. Never do anything with a debt company over the phone. You need proof of what was said.
Good luckI'm a qualified accountant but please make sure you get expert advice as any opinion is made in a private capacity.

Wait to see if they get in touch more.
If they do, Send the prove it letter. - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2
Ifs a very old debt (6 years+ since last payment) send the SB letter - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/11571227#Comment_11571227Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Thank you. Might send the prove it letter, dont really want this 'hanging over us' IYKWIM.
If it is the £700 i think we'll be sending a f&f offer, any ideas on a %. Would 50% be ok or higher?
Sorry another question
there is a default on this debt. If he pays it would there be any chance that the default could be removed? Or am i just being optimistic :rotfl: Tesco CC 1300/461.93/838.07Mini HP 13000.62/5813.62/71870 -
Hi Laura,
Don't contact muck hall by telephone as there employees are rude, agressive and generally obnoxious. Send the prove it letter first and see what the response is, as they may not be able to prove your OH owes the debt and you therefore pay nothing. If they can prove it, start a full and final settlement offer at about 20% and go from there, but don't pay anything until you've got it in writing the offer is as a full and final settlement to ensure nobody else can come after your OH for the remaining balance. Either type your other halfs name or print the signature as debt collection agencies have been known to copy signatures when they need to!If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

It's always a good sign when Muck Hall gets passed debts, as it will be utterly unenforceable.
They're the biodegraded fag end lying in the gutter of the debt industry - the absolute last resort.
It would have passed through so many companies in the meantime (First Credit being the most common).
Whoever the original client was, I can guarantee that they won't have any idea that Muck Hall currently have been passed this 'debt'.
I don't know of a single instance where Muck Hall have fulfilled a CCA request - not even once!
Take it from me - MacKenzie Hall have never taken anyone to court. The only way they will see the inside of a courtroom are as defendants.0 -

You can't ask them to 'prove it' when they haven't asserted anything.
Read about MH and their tactics. There are hundreds of threads on them.
Dark Convict's strategy is sound.
My suspicion is (as always with MH) that there will be something dodgy about this - either it's not your OH's debt at all or it's so ancient it's statute barred and they have picked it up for 1p in the pound.0 -
