How should I connect my TV etc for best effect?

I have a Sony Bravia LCD TV with a built in freeview box ( it's the KDL32V2000) I recently got a Sony DVD/HDD recorder that also has a Freeview box built in ( RDR-HX525) and I am trying to work out how they should be connected together because the cabling diagrams on line are not working and the one's in the book don't seem to apply.

I have them connected but I can't record when the TV is switched off so I think I have done something wrong any ideas?

Thanks;)

I would think that the aerial needs to be connected to the DVD/HDD and then looped through to the TV set. Do Sony not provide instructions?

If the TV gets it's aerial feed after the recorder, it does not need to be switched on. If you are 'recording blackness' have you tuned the recorder?

I think I have tuned the recorder, will have to spend some quality time with the book and my brain in gear or find a kind soul who knows what to do.
