    not really
theres plenty of cars out there where this is becoming the norm
the changes in design for pedestrian 'safety' are a factor

Its entirely down to bad design, and ease of construction in the factory.

Bulbs can go at any point, and should be replaceable at the side of the road.

Dropping the bumper to change bulbs, that's a first! lol
Unfortunately not a first, and definately not the last.

Most ironic are French cars - you have to carry a spare set of bulbs in France, but to put one in a new shape Scenic you need to drop the front bumper, which makes doing it by the roadside impossible.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Afriad not, the Renault Modus is a good example of it.

Way of the future I'm afriad.

It's a new one for me then :D

Imagine having to spend an hour dropping the bumper just to change a bulb. Soon Kwik-Fit will be providing a new service :rotfl:

Standard procedure for Zafiras and Merivas is to remove the front bumper, mainly to prevent damage to clips and hands, you may be able to do it without removing the bumper, but removing the bumper is the way it was designed to be done, for example we have Zafiras at work, they are on the go 24 hours a day, and due to being diesel aswell they go through a lot of bulbs, a breaks
down company was called out to change a bulb one night when the fitters are closed, result was broken clips. Not really the breakdown companies fault, more than likely our managers where on his back to get it done quickly, they have no idea how things are engineered or designed, just that "it is only a bulb", technology moves on, the price for improved safety is very simple tasks being made more indepth.
OP don't forget that having a diesel will result in more headlight bulb use a lot of the time, mainly due to the vibration from the engine.

In older cars you had space behind the slam panel to get your hand in, with advances in car design to increase safety has made cars have different front ends, they are desgned to crumple in a specifc way to absorb the impact, not make it easy to change bulbs, but if you look at how easy it is to remove the front bumper on modern cars, or to be more exact how easy it is to remove the bumper "cover", you will see that the design has always been to aid removal, remember that the manufacturers don't desgn the car to make it easy for anybody, they design it so one of their technicians with the correct tools and training can do it easily and quickly.

Luckily my mk3 Mondeo doesn't need to have the bumper removed, but you do have to take the front grill off and remove the headlight. the headlight isn't bolted on, it is held in place with two long thin pieces of metal the locate the headlight to the front panel. I can get the headlights off in minutes, you could probably change the bulbs without removing the headlight, but why do the job in a way that could damage something.
