Recommend a car for me!

Hi everyone

I'm thinking of buying a new car, I'll have £5000 to spend. Someone I know is selling a 53 plate Mini with 32000 miles for that amount, is this a good deal or not?

I'll be using the car for lots of local driving at the moment (within 10 miles) and hopefully for commuting to a new job which is 30 miles away. I need something reliable and with a fair amount of power as I have a 1 litre Corsa at the minute and it's really not good on the motorway. I know this shouldn't be a factor but I love the look of Minis and I'm quite taken with this one my friend has. No kids, not bothered about backseat or boot space.

What would you recommend? Any other things you need to know just ask!

Thanks
Amy

Google Parkers, and in there you can get a valuation for the exact car based on the mileage. As with all used cars check the history etc

Be prepared to be bitten by the mini bug too, many people i know will not have anything but a mini now!

I too like the look of the mini, but I think they are a bit overpriced to be honest.

As you will be doing 60miles round journey a day then the petrol mini will cost you a fair bit.
I would look into getting a diesel car for those mileage, but I understand the appeal of wanting a mini.

*I will be doing 20k+ mileage next year so have been looking into getting a yaris 2006 1.4 diesel (mk2 current shape), 65-70mpg on motorways.
If you weren't doing 60 miles a day commute then I would say go for the mini. The mini might cost you near £10 a day on petrol for your commute
where as a diesel like the yaris will cost around £5.
  • 60 miles a day get a diesal, what he said^
Nothing to see here, move along.
  • Here's my penneth worth ;)

I've been looking for a little run around (whilst I save for my Vauxhall Insignia or Land Rover Discovery 3) and just settled on an immaculate 57 plate Fiat Punto Grande with 10700 miles on for £3850 :T

I did see a Mini Cooper on a 54 plate a while back for £4495 I'm sure it was and the guy took a couple of hundred less.

That was red with white roof, white mirrors and white stripoes down the middle. Immaculate also inside.......

Please be wise and do not simply let your heart rule head. Check ebay AND the autotrader website. Familiarise yourself with prices and see what you're prepared to pay from there.

Choose carefully and you should end up with the car of your choice and trouble-free motoring.

    GOOD LUCK :D

    Stephen :)

    Have to agree
I'm coming up to 170k in my 2005 (old shape) diesel yaris. Very few repairs, great mpg, surprisingly responsive on the motorway and comes with a stainless steel exhaust as standard (not a lot of people know that). I hope the newer yaris I hope to buy is as good.

5 k should get you a decent low mileage one or a younger new shape.
Of course the Mini is cooler tho
  • So basically....don't buy the Mini :)

Thanks everyone, I just like it though! I really don't want a Yaris I think they look horrible sorry :o.

Really...... I think the current shape yaris looks solid, well build and fine looking for a supermini.

If you dont like the yaris then find something you like, preferably a diesel japanese car.

    * Actually there are other very good diesel engines like the skoda and vw.
