macbook opening .doc ???

im using a macbook air, have been sent a job application form in a .doc format, cant seem to open it right. every time i open it bits are missing or are jumbled on page. have tried opening in iwork and in open office.
i really need to get this filled in today, any suggestions on how to get it to open properly ?

Use google docs online to sort it out. Just go on to google main site and click more than docs. Or just google "Google docs".Going into last year of uni. What to do next?0

have just done this, when trying to upload the documents states rejected ??????????????
