save money on home insurance

I just found out yesterday that not only does car insurance depend on your age, but so does home insurance. We saved £60 by putting my partner who is older than me as the main policy holder instead of myself! I tried this with a few companies, teso, churchill, liverpool victoria and it was always cheaper by £40-60 to put the older person as the main policy holder. Live and learn!

  • May I ask how much older and what age bracket you are in. I am 47 and my wife is 49. Do you think that would make a difference?:)

It would depend on who is underwriting the policy. Sometimes it goes up in increments of 10 years ie over 40, over 50 etc. A couple of years sometimes makes liitle or no difference.

Another factor to consider is the occupation of the proposer. Some jobs are calculated as higher risk than others.

You could try a few online quotes using either details and see which one comes in best.

It must depend on individual companies. I am 6 years younger than my oh and transferring it in JUne the same cover was £20 cheaper.
