Transfering DVDs?

I have a dvd of a family party & want to transfer it onto my Laptop. How do I do this? Do I need any software? I use Windows 7 if that's any help?

Many thanks

The Best combo I have used is Slysoft AnyDVD, for decryption (if needed) and then Slysoft CloneDVD for the actual ripping. This will rip it to an .iso or the raw dvd files.

If you want the file in an .avi or .mkv etc. Then use Slysoft CloneDVD Mobile. This program can convert through many different formats.

21 Day Trial on the website.

I know it sounds like i'm trying to sell it but it have used it for as long as i know and really is the best in my opinion.

DVD SHRINK is free and will do the job just fine
    or DVD DECRYPTOR (also free)

I tried that, but once it had downloaded onto laptop, I wasn't sure how to put it onto another DVD as there seemed to be many subfiles.
  • Since its a family DVD most likely its not encrypted/protected.

You should be able to copy the AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS to your laptop
and you should be able to use a media player like VLC to play it on your laptop.

Honestly, I don't think that could have been made more complicated.

The free trial of Magic DVD Ripper will do the job of ripping.

If you just want to clone the DVD, you can use ImgBurn(No need to install the Yahoo Toolbar) using the guide here.
  • There is this free one too that I find faster than magicdvdripper

As mentioned above, no need for 'ripping' software if it's a non-copyright dvd.

you only need to copy the files (*.vob) within the video_ts folder (audio-ts holds language dubs if added) and use vlc player or similar to play them.

converting to a single file (avi/mpg, etc.) is another matter - just google 'freeware video converter' (i use divx converter, which is either free or trialware - can't remember!)

try this, just found via a bit of googly: http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/
