Can I get a whistle for a non-whistling kettle?

I have a good electric kettle but the automatic cut out has stopped working.

Is it possible to get a whistle to fit the spout, like the whistling kettles of yore, so that I can remember to switch it off before the kitchen resembles a sauna?

Whistling kettles are easy to find online but I can't find the whistles on their own.

I've never come across one. In the meantime you could set your kitchen timer for 3 minutes (or however long it takes the kettle to boil) to remind you to go and check.

All the whistle does is divert the steam through a small hole, making the sound when the force of steam is at boiling level.

I imagine you could 'construct' a suitable device, but it depends what shape your spout is! (ooh er)

Good idea, I have an old police whistle I could rig up to it...it would make my kitchen sound like 'Dixon of Dock Green' every time the kettle boils...! :rotfl:

  • I think you can buy a whistling bird which you can put in/on the kettle to act as a whistle, but am not entirely sure if they only work in certain kettles or where you can get them.
