HDMI no red

Hi guys, looking for some advice, I just bought a DVI-D to HDMI cable to attach my computer to my TV.
Thing is when plugged into the TV ( I've tried 2) it won't display any red colouration. I've had a play in the Catalyst Control Centre, if I adjust the settings for Red colour nothing happens.
Am I missing something here, or is it reasonable to complain the the cable is faulty.
Thanks

Cable could be faulty.
Have a look at the connection on the back of the PC. You could have bent a pin perhaps? Make sure they are all straight.
If you still have a monitor, check you can get all colours when the PC is plugged into that to rule out the PC.0 -
You need to check each part of the setup seperately to see where the fault lies ...
Connect the DVI out on the computer to a monitor (that you know works) ...if that's OK you know the signal is being sent out of the computer.
Connect a DVD player (or something) that you know works to the same HDMI input on the TV ... if that is OK, you know the TV works and the HDMI socket is wired up OK..
Only thing left then is that the cable is faulty ..0 -
Sure youve got the right settings
Tvs generally allow 'upto' 3 different types of signals (2 component and RGB)
If the PCs sending a signal the tv isnt set to (Or isnt compatible with) then your fluffed:idea:0 -
Hi, well my problem is I have nothing else with a DVI output. And my Graphics card only has two DVI outputs.
But as I say I've tried two tvs, and both PC outputs.
DVI to DVI displays fine on my monitor, DVI to VGA displays fine on the monitor and TV.
And a HDMI to HDMI cable from my laptop displays fine on the tv.
RIK, no I'm not sure I've got the right settings its why I ask really, but the TV's are set to HDMI input, which is why I can get a image and there's no reason why the output from the PC should be missing red colouration I don't think.

- if you only have DVi out, and ;
- if HDMi in on your TV works ok !
- you can have / try HDMi out from your DVi laptop
- with a DVi to HDMi gender~bender dongle .. .. below
I don't have the answer to your problem but I'd bet good money on catalyst driver sets & CCC panel settings.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. That sounds very much like the problem I had with one of our PC's the other day.
It turned out the colour depth for the TV had been set to something like 4bit in the display adaptor settings.
If it was the cable you wouldn't iirc get any picture as the red information is encoded along side the green and blue and sent on the same conductor, unlike analogue where each of the colours is sent on it's own conductor.0 -
OK...now I'm confused
So are you saying it definitely can't be the cable.
Its just if it isn't why am I
a)Not having trouble with any other inputs to the TV
b)Not having trouble with any other outputs from the PC
Thanks0 -
Its possibly the cable. But again, its quite likely that the PC is sending a signal your tv doesnt like
With it being digital I cant see it being the cable as if it truly wasnt sending a red signal (In RGB) then you wouldnt get ANY picture. Its all or nothing with digital (So far as im aware):idea:0 -
Thanks RIK,
Obviously my problem is if its the cable I'd like a replacement, and if the cable is fine but there is something else wrong then I need to try and solve it.
Its a HD graphics card, so there is no reason as far as I can tell why a DVI-D to HDMI shouldn't display just fine.
AS for the settings being incorrect, can anyone suggest which ones, I haven't altered the Colour Profiles etc.
And as I say Red just seems not to be there, within the catalyst control centre I can change the brightness etc of the blue or green colouration and it makes a difference, but nothing I do in the red makes any difference at all.
The image always looks bluey.
Thanks again.0 -
Have you looked at the HDMI settings on the tv? (AUTO should be best if its there, otherwise cycle through the options):idea:0
