to be perfectly honest with such a small budget you cannot afford to take a chance on an item from China which will likely turn out to be nothing like you wanted.

I think Maysie has given good advice on the ebay route and you may even find a seller who will let you try it on locally before buying. Get your niece to check out the local charity shops too-there is one by me that actually has a wedding shop and if there is one in your area then she will know exactly what she is getting
  • neice sent me two links, other dress bidding ended

    she wants this one now

    please help!!!
shall i get it for her or persuade her to get something from the uk?

i have no idea how ebay works!
She LEFT me, she LIED, and she made me foot the BILL !

Does she know it won't look exactly like that?

That's not a pic of a dress the seller or their company have made, that's a stock photo taken from a designers website although I'm not sure which designer it is.

If she can afford to lose the money and time having that one incase it's rubbish or late, tell her to go for it, but if hasn't got the money or time to sort something else out, I wouldn't bother.

That's the gamble she'll have to take.

buying custom made will mean its virtually impossible to get your money back if its not what your niece wanted.

Maysie was right in what she was saying-the shipping times means it will be too late to open a dispute. If you bid on a UK item you have more recourse if something is not as it should be.
  • i thought that picture was the ACTUAL chinese designers dress, i assume neice thinks the same, i think i'm going to drag her to monsoon/debenhams, because tbh i can't afford to waste even a fiver, my income is virtually non exsitent and me buying the dress has put a large dent in my everyday day to day costs!

Try the charity shops as well, you will be amazed! Our one has loads of dresses practically new, some are for ridiculous amounts like £30!

Isle of Man, but I am sure there will be some in your area that you can go to!

My friend ordered her wedding dress (£120) and 2 bridesmaid dress (£58 each) and they were gorgeous. They had to be ironed because they are packed up in a very small parcel but they they ironed beautifully. It wasn't the risk it sounds however, because she had used the site before to order an evening dress and it was fab too!

Having said that, it isn't worth taking a risk if you:
    a) can't afford to buy another dress if you totally hate it when it arrives
    b) haven't got access to someone handy with a needle who can rectify any minor (ish) problems! (On my firends, a few of the top buttons down the back of the dress had to be repositioned but that was it).
  • Dont do it!!! I did it and deeply regretted it, still got my dress from china upstairs in a box ontop of my wardrobe total waste of money!! £300 WASTED!! Luckily I had time and my mum stepped in and bought me a beautiful UK custom made gown which I was more than happy with
