Stapleton is not an inner city area - are you confusing it with Stapleton Road, aka the most dangerous road in Britain, which runs through Easton?

    Yes, yes I am.

Ok I've lived in Bristol my whole life, and I seriously thought they were the same place! Silly me!

How close do you want to be? I would recommend Thornbury - 8 or 9 miles away from Frenchay (about 20 mins by car), excellent schools too.

It is a proper little town with shops, supermarkets, leisure centre, unlike Winterbourne and Frampton Cotterell which are suburban villages. House prices aren't too unreasonable.

Thornbury is a lovely village and the schools are supposed to be good, but I don't know them well and I don't know whether they will be oversubscribed so you would need to check whether you will be able to transfer your child into the better primary schools.

However, I would argue that it is 20 mins between Thornbury and Frenchay. Bristol/South Glos traffic is terrible in rush hour (which I assume you will be travelling in). It much more like 40 mins very slow going to get from Thornbury to Frenchay.

I would say that the 5 miles from Winterbourne to Frenchay is 20 mins. To get to Frenchay you need to pass through a major cross roads on the Bristol ring road which is notorious for bad and very very slow traffic.

I suppose it would depend upon the route you take - it takes me 20 minutes to do the reverse route from Bromley Heath to Thornbury morning and afternoon. (Steering clear of the Almondsbury interchange, M32 J1 and Hambrook lights is key here!)

Stapleton is next door to Frenchay so would be a quick commute, but the area is pretty rough and the primary schools are rubbish. The private secondary school in Stapleton is good though, for future reference!.

On what basis do you call Stapleton rough?

Quite possibly but you are going in the opposite direction to the majority of the traffic.

I live only a few miles away and I would not call it rough at all. You must have lead a very sheltered life if you think Stapleton is rough!

Yes, I probably have led a sheltered life. There are much worse areas in Bristol than Stapleton, it certainly isn't the worse area. Stapleton in comparison to Knowle West is pure luxury. However, I just think that there are better areas within a short commuter distance from Frenchay, and certainly better state primary schools than the ones in Stapleton.

I don't know anything about the schools (not having children myself) but Stapleton seems quite nice, I would definitely consider living there if I had enough money. I live in Eastville so I have to go through Easton to get home - now there's a place I would recommend anyone to live right now!
