Software for disabled teenager to write emails, facebook, etc

A teenage friend is physically disabled has just brought himself a laptop and I was wondering if there is any software that will allow him to use the internet, email, facebook, etc via voice recognition.
Due to his disability (muscular dstrophy) he has limited moveability in his arms and hands and therefore wouldn't be able to type like everybody else.
Any advice would be appreciated, as I would just like to help him get more out of his computer experience and give him some privacy instead of having a carer writing for him.

Dragon Dictate, and if he has a Mac he could use Mac-speech, they are both quite accurate after training. Also there is a free app in the Apple Itunes store (dragon dictation) that may be of use to him for his phone.

  • Hey thanks for your quick replies, much appreciated.

I have just started to investigate this and Dragon (Naturally Speaking) had been mentioned a couple of other times, but I wanted a bit more advice.

His laptop has Windows 7 on, which I understand has a speech recognition program on, is this any good?

My friend is wanting to go for independant living (in the community with a live-in carer) when he turns 18, so I think something like this would be good to get him now so he can get use to it.
