Advice Pls - New Cashmere Cardigan has shrunk, yet I followed the care instructions

Options
I was wondering if someone could help and give me some advice regarding where I stand....

I bought a cashmere cardigan from a well known store for about £80. Now while I would not normally dream of spending so much on one item of clothing, I fell in love with it and treated myself with some of my bonus money - I never would have been able to afford it otherwise.

I washed it for the first time last night - I followed the care instructions to the letter and guess what..... it has shrunk and matted together.

I'm gutted...... I have emailed the company as I am unable to easily get to a store and they don't take returns at their concessions according to their website.

So my question is where do I stand from a consumer point of view? I just would like to be ready in case they come back and say they won't refund it - £80 is a lot of money to lose on an item I have worn a handful of times.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I think you're going to have to take it into a store and explain what happened. I appreciate that might be difficult but it is 80 quid that you want back. What's the store? BTW, I don't really understand what "they don't take returns at their concessions" means so I'm not sure if I've completely understood your post.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Regardless of what the care instructions were i would only ever hand wash cashmere

It sounds like the temperature was too hot for the wool

Hope you get it sorted, depending who it is its wether they beleive you followed the instructions and thats the hard bit.

Try approaching it in a polite rather than these are my rights way and hopefully they will sort it out for you

Agreed, used to work in a tourist trap that sold cashmere as a student. A shop assistant that sells a lot of it will be able to tell if you have essentially "boiled" the knitwear.

  • Thank for the replies... will wait and see what they say to my polite email!!

With regard to the concessions thing - they have a few shops nationwide but have quite a few concessions within department stores...

I wish I had hand washed it now - but if they put it on the lable you tend to think they know that it can be washed in a machine....
