Varnish not drying..?

Old Ronnie Rustin's stuff is the best on the market IMHO but brushload for brushload its twice as expensive as the Wickes product.gingerninja72 wrote: »Well the stuff I got was Rustins, a good brand I would have thought, seem to appear in all searches
This stuff http://www.choiceful.com/choiceful-id-75778-Rustins-Matt-Finish-Polyurethane-Clear-Varnish-500ml.html
What I was driving at was if the stain can said "use our own branded varnish" and if you followed the instructions in both cases to the letter then you would (if you wanted) have a case to go back to Mr Wickes and ask him what he's going to do about it as something is clearly amiss.

Ah I see. Well !!!!!! all that Wickes could do about it, so am going to have to just be patient and wait for it to dry. Just wondered if this happened a lot, hence the thread
Thanks for your time anyway

may be incorrect preparation
The earlier post that mentioned original preparation, may have had the answer. If the table was not sanded back to new wood before the stain/varnish finishing, then the varnish may never properly dry. I've made that "schoolboy error" in the past, as some waxy/oily finishes can not be "polyeurethaned over". If this is the case then there will always be a tacky finish (similar to yacht varnish). The only solution for me me was to scrape, then sand back to new wood - and remember the lesson for the future.
