I just want one that isn't painfully slow all the time. Not particularly needing to download loads of stuff like photos and music.

will you be streaming video? e.g. BBC iPlayer? youtube? if so, what quality do you want from that?
if you're more specific about internet use, advice can be more targeted

Budget up to £600 at a push but not looking to pay that if I dont need to. Its for my dad actually.
Yes I will be streaming videos like I Player and live football. Quality of this is important. Other than that, its basically just to view websites.0 -
I got a dell inpiron 1564 from dell outlet a few months ago, HD graphics chip, Intel i3 processor, blah blah c.£350. great for this kind of use as that's what the wife uses it for mainly!Friendly greeting!0
