Interview for an assistant cook

            Good Morning Folks
My wife had her interview towards the end of last week. She felt that she did ok except for once question -
How would you demonstrate equal opportunities in the kitchen environment?
Any ideas how this should be answered in future.
Thanks in advanice for your response.
Obviously interviewed by a box ticker from HR rather than someone who knows about kitchens...I seriously doubt that question will come up again!
Have a read of Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain which is an entertaining read and gives an insight to what real kitchens are like.
Anyway, to answer your question has your wife ever worked in male dominated or multicultural team? She might be able to say something like "I've worked in a kitchen where I was the only female yet they treated me as an equal and let me develop my full potential. I really appreciated that and in turn would always look to develop my team no matter what their background."0

God I hate those stupid EOpps questions. It's justa box ticking exercise for the company so that they can say they have an equal opps policy. What a load of ****. I once had an interviewer apologise to me for having to ask such a stupid question.
I doubt what you say makes much difference to the interviewer as long as you don't say something stupid like 'oh but I'm a nazi, I don't believe in equal opps'. So she shouldn't worry about it.
I did get a pretty ood answer together relationg to what I do, but in a kitchen environment? Hmmm...something like 'I'm pleased to see you take equal opps seriously here. Of course, it relates to both my colleagues and the customers, and it's important to ensure that everyone is treated equally and has equal access to our services, training and so on, while at the same time ensuring that any special needs or requirements are taken into consideration. For example, I would ensure that vegetarian food is always available, as not only is that the choice of some people, it's also a religious requirement for many.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0
