You need a wireless adsl router for BT lines, eg:

whatever you get, you need to secure it with encryption:

If you don't have a network card, https://www.ebuyer.com sell them for a few quid, but you can use the network card in the laptop to configure the router initially, and buy another wireless adapter for the PC if you prefer (an ethernet card is cheaper, easier, and more secure though)Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

thanks everyone for your expertise
I'm going to order one of these as well as this router ,
should the ethernet card just be a straight replacement/swap for my modem socket or do i need to order a cable also ? do i need anything else ?
Thanks again"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."
happy travels !!

Both those choices are fine.
Your modem will now be redundant. Once you have fitted the ethernet card into a pci slot inside your desktop you'll be able to connect with the patch cable that comes with the router.

Good choice..
you can leave the modem in the pc (if there are enough slots), and you get an ethernet cable in the box with the router.
Don't forget to encrypt!Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
