Music edit software

Does anyone know of software that I can download which will enable me to (easily) merge two pieces of music in and out (so to speak) basically I am trying to make a soundtrack which will have soft music interspersed with loud rough noises to emulate the emotions etc. experienced during childbirth. (It's for my wife who is an antenatal teacher)

Thanks for that espresso. I've downloaded it and tried it. It is good but I think I'm a bit too thick to use it. I need to fuse a piano tune with white noise i.e. 30 secs music and then 30 sec white noise with the white noise fading in starting low and gradually getting high then fading out with the piano music starting again, and so on continuing for about 10 mins in total.

Any ideas anyone ?
