Your choice is either free or Works, not both. Not legally anyway :)

Why would you want Microsoft Works?
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

The OP asked for Works, so what's the point of spamming the thread with Sun OpenOffice?

In response to the question, you could try asking on freegle/freecycle; Works is included with some PCs but maybe the buyer doesn't want it.

You could also look at car boot sales, where it may be possible to get one for nearly free.

Beware that Works has changed over the years; at one point it included the full MS Word application and Encarta, but now it seems to have reverted to a lesser product again.

i think it does come down to what you actually need in works, open office is a great free office suite but its more a replacement for microsoft office than works, but still might be worth a look depending on what you actually need
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Just in case OP wants something free thats compatible with the MS wordpad they currently use and conventional paid for MS office programs like Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc etc rather than running off down the rabbit hold of MS works used by just about nobody annd not really compatible with anything else.

Why would anyone want works? or defend trying to steer people away from it?

Because Works is rubbish and usually saves in formats MS Office doesn't play with.

With the exception of .doc(x) & .xls(x), the four most commonly used Office file formats.

MS stopped supporting Works a while back.
Anyway, with more Councils & businesses switching to Openoffice, it could give the OP an advantage if they switch jobs.
